ARA Engineering Ltd. is a rapidly growing, Alberta-based consulting firm specializing in the delivery of transportation infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients. We have an IMMEDIATE opening for an STAFF ACCOUNTANT responsible for managing all aspects of the accounting function, human resources and administration for our company.



preparation of monthly financial & operational reports reflecting the condition of the company

monitoring and managing the revenue cycle for all projects including reconciliation of project billing to budgeted contracts

month-end bank, VISA, Accounts Receivables and Account Payables reconciliations and recording of month-end accruals

year-end closing of the books and preparation of reconciliations, working papers and schedules for an external CGA

managing the payroll function; preparing various tax reports, license and insurance renewals & reporting, and maintaining overtime and vacation time records

human resources functions; keeping employee records up to date, managing group health & dental benefits plan, answering employees’ questions and mediate any employee concerns

manage miscellaneous day to day business operations and decision making for our company

oversee a staff of 3-4 employees


The successful candidate will report directly to the President of the company and have the support of our external CGA when technical issues arise.



A demonstrated understanding of basic and core accounting principals

Accounting diploma/certificate or equivalent experience

Advanced experience with MS Office (Excel and Word) and Simply Accounting  


The STAFF ACCOUNTANT will have a minimum of 6 years of directly related experience with at least 4 in a supervisory role. Proven leadership skills are important as the position will require supervising assistants while managing the accounting system, human resources & administration of our company.  This position requires a self-starter who is able to work independently with minimum supervision. The applicant must have strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills, a demonstrated ability to successfully perform in a multi-disciplined work team environment while consistently meeting deadlines, and be proactive in identifying problem areas and proposing changes for improvements.
