An opportunity exists in Operations Finance for a Senior Financial Analyst, Hydro.  TransAlta’s Hydro facilities provide over 10% of TransAlta’s generation capacity, with 27 facilities located in Alberta, B.C Ontario and U.S.  Located at TransAlta’s Calgary head office, and reporting to Finance Manager Renewable Operations, the incumbent will become a business partner within Hydro Operations.  The position provides the opportunity to contribute to goals, while providing full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, variance analysis, budget preparation, cost control guidance, and ad-hoc projects.

 

Responsibilities include:

Preparing and validating financial and performance variance analysis (Month/Quarter/Annual/year over year

Supporting Hydro Operations team to prepare and analyze monthly OM&A forecasts.

Providing observations in financial trends, and identifying risks and opportunities to profitability.

Journal Voucher processing in SAP.

Providing working capital estimates, analysis and reporting.

Understanding and adhering to requirements for financial support of Hydro contractual arrangements.

Supporting Hydro Operations team with tools and analysis to complete and analyze the annual budget.

Providing assistance with internal/external financial audits, and Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A

Preparing balance sheet account reconciliations.

Maintaining documentation around role tasks for cross-training and backfill purposes.

Maintaining plant profile documentation for Hydro facilities.

Capital expenditure/asset accounting support and reporting/forecasting.

Education and background:

Preference will be given to candidates who possess a post-secondary degree or diploma (preferably with finance or accounting major accompanied by pursuit or completion of a professional designation such as CA, CMA, or CGA.

At least 5 years of related experience in a business environment.

Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

SAP transactional and BW Analyzer knowledge.

SAP Project Systems and Asset Accounting knowledge would be an asset.
