This is a unique opportunity that presents itself in two phases: For time of hire to end of December 2014, you will be placed on a project team and tasked to participate in the upcoming Go-Live strategy of AltaGas’ payroll system in J.D. Edwards 9.1.
Responsibilities of the position in the first phase include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide subject matter expertise related to legislative, regulatory, accounting and technical requirements related to the processing of payroll.
Testing of payroll processes established within the new system to ensure accuracy. Assist in data conversion efforts and system cutover.
Ensure controls established within the payroll system configuration are tested to meet audit requirements.
Participate as a contributing team member in all work that needs to be accomplished to meet the project goal of a well-configured system with effective materials and processes established to succeed in establishing a centralized payroll processing function
Starting in January 2015, you will participate as a member of the Central Payroll processing team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Full cycle payroll processing for Canadian payroll
Process bi-weekly payrolls for salaried, hourly and union payrolls in accordance with established company practices and procedures.
Perform all activities necessary to process payrolls, including maintaining related records, filing tax reports, calculating and recording payroll deductions, critically review and analyze all data files to ensure successful processing, while adhering to legislative and regulatory requirements
Administer calendar and fiscal year-end reporting
Coordinate CRA remittances
Reconciliation of monthly entries
Provide assistance and backup coverage to other members of the Central Payroll team
Other responsibilities as required
Post-secondary degree/diploma or certification in payroll administration
A minimum of 3-5 years of payroll experience, preferable in an environment where payroll is processed in-house
Experience with JDE software considered an asset
In-depth knowledge of provincial and federal laws and regulations related to the payroll function
Strong understanding of payroll accounting, and related processes and requirements
Exceptional attention to detail, organization and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and work effectively under deadlines
Team focused with a strong sense of urgency to achieve results;
Strong Microsoft Office skills, with particular strength in Excel
Excellent communication skills,both verbal and written
