As an independent system operator, the AESO leads the safe, reliable and economic planning and operation of Alberta's interconnected power system. The AESO also facilitates Alberta's fair, efficient and openly competitive wholesale electricity market, which in 2013 had about 176 participants and approximately $8.0 billion in annual energy transactions.

The key objective of this position is to identify business needs in order to help determine solutions to business problems. Solutions often include a systems development component, but may also consist of process improvement or organizational change. This requires that the Business Analyst (BA) works closely with internal clients and management to identify, analyze, and initiate business process improvement opportunities. In turn, the BA will be responsible for translating the identified business requirements into detailed requirements; allowing the design and development of systems solutions and the effective testing and deployment of those solutions.

The BA role includes an ongoing responsibility to conceive, design and develop relevant best business analysis practices and standards, and associated tools, templates and techniques to improve the quality and productivity of IT solutions. This role will also include exposure to project management responsibilities.

Support Project Manager and assist or perform project management tasks if required

Support and Steward Solution Design and Development teams

Application Release Management Support

 

Education:

Completion of a post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Information Technology (or equivalent)

BA Certification through IIBA or other certifying body desirable

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience Required:

7+ years of experience as a business analyst

A solid understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and structured developmental methodology, including waterfall, iterative and agile

Familiarity with IIBA processes and standards

Experience with mapping business processes, rules, system requirements

Excellent oral and written communication skills and are comfortable working with both business users and technical specialists

Extensive experience in authoring the following artifacts:

           - Business cases

           - Business process models

           - Business, technical, functional and non-functional requirements

           -  Use cases
